Civicrm Event Layout Customization
March 16, 2011, 09:34:24 am
I like to customize civicrm event registration layout so it become more easier for any non-technical user to create any event & register for any event too.
I like to remove tab system while creating an event & make a new "next & continue" like system for the sake of simplicity & then at least only one time "Save & Done." All in one go!
How can I do that ? or is there any patch which already do this or any theme except "SimplyCivi" which can make event registration more easier ?

You really think that bl*$ is simplier than tab ?

Check the event template, that makes it a one click operation.

I was much concerned with the fact that right now what it does is just "Save" & not to redirect onto other tabs to continue.
What I want to do is that as soon as some auth user click on save button he/she is redirected to other tab & when he reaches on the last tab, save & done options appears & then it is saved & done.
So how can I do that ? I looked into code but couldn't get actual direction to do this. I will make a separate module by altering the methods & will submit that module if anyone else too want that. Just need some direction how & where?

Important to note that the "create new event" workflow used to work that way. User was "forced" to go through each step and then "finish". Many users felt this was not optimal usabiilty, especially given that depending on the nature of the event some steps are not needed. It also gave the false impression that the event was not actually created until the last step was finished.

Finally, given the "Event Templates" feature some new events will have a significant portion of their configuration taken care of automatically (since they inherit many needed config properties from the selected Event Template).

I'm not sure we should go "back" to a lock-step model although I understand the attraction of automatically advancing through the steps when creating a new event. Perhaps there's some alternate "modes" (expert and beginner) OR a 3rd button (Save and Next) OR ????

I didn't know, it used to exist & then removed later. So submitted patch. Yeah it may give false impression too but it could be helpful for users too as I told in issue description.
Yeah save & next button could be an alternative but some people requires this feature. But alternate going to create confusions to end users again too.
There could be an option that just why not remove this tabbing system totally & there is some dashboard thing, like all important thing on one single page & some advanced options hidden [that can be shown onclick.]
