CRM Idol 2011

If you meet the submission criteria outlined below, you will be given the opportunity, first come first serve, to secure a time slot on a specific day that will put you in front of some of the most influential people in the CRM/SCRM world. They will spend an hour with you in a demo to hear about your technology product – software only – and they will write a jointly signed review of what they saw of you – that will be published in multiple venues as soon as its written. It can be a good review, a bad one, a mix or indifferent. There’s risk on your part to be taken here. But it is something that you need to be aware of. The reviews will go up as soon as the 5 judge sign off on the final content. They won’t be exhaustive reviews but they will be opinionated and fair.

One wonders why the competition is only for commercial software?

"You have to have software that is commercially available by the time of the demo – that would be in August – again see below"

Well, CiviCRM kind of is - in that you can pay someone to implement it ...

as I read it, the emphasis seems to be on the availability, not the commercial vs. FOSS status
they don't want submissions for software that is currently in beta and not yet fully available for use
so in that sense, Civi *is* "commercially available"

CiviCRM is scheduled for August 22nd at 6:00 p.m. EDT

I'm certainly happy to help and may be able to lead/coordinate.  Do we have any more info on the process other than that posted?  There isn't much info on the Demo...  I want to be sure that I can follow through before I commit.

If/when we get more info, i can pass it on

I am willing to help out in any way as well.  Should we maybe try and do a listserv or conference call for everyone that wants to participate?

Any news? I am interested, and can probably help with a video production if we have to do our own.

Proposed:

1. A logo in .PNG format or if not that .JPG
http://civicrm.org/themes/civicrm_org/images/logo.png

2. Corporate description.
CiviCRM is created by an open source community coordinated by CiviCRM LLC, and the 501c3 non-profit Social Source Foundation. The project also receives ongoing input and guidance from our Community Advisory Board. The Social Source Foundation is a nonproft organization (501c3) that exists to create open source, mission-focused technology for the nonprofit and NGO sector. Partnering with organizations like CivicSpace Labs - veterans of the Howard Dean campaign which pioneered the use of the Internet in political constituent engagement and fundraising, and CivicActions - developers of Advokit, a tool for campaigns to mobilize supporters in get out the vote (GOTV) efforts, we began building in 2005 an open source ecosystem of developers, users, and intermediaries that contribute engineering, product development, sales and marketing resources and have been a primary sponsor of the CiviCRM project ever since. CiviCRM LLC holds the copyright to much of the codebase of CiviCRM, which it has contributed back to the community under the GNU Affero General Public License 3 (GNU AGPL 3).

3. Product description
CiviCRM is a free, libre and open source software constituent relationship management solution. CiviCRM is web-based, internationalized, and designed specifically to meet the needs of advocacy, non-profit and non-governmental groups. Integration with both Drupal and Joomla! content management systems gives you the tools to connect, communicate and activate your supporters and constituents.

CiviCRM is a powerful contact, fundraising and eCRM system that allows you to record and manage information about your various constituents including volunteers, activists, donors, employees, clients, vendors, etc. Track and execute donations, transactions, conversations, events or any type of correspondence with each constituent and store it all in one, easily accessible and manageable source.

KEY FEATURES IN DETAIL
  • Segmentation Tools. Use groups, simple and searchable tags, and/or relationships to segment constituents.
  • Extensive Configurability. CiviCRM is highly configurable, allowing you, in most cases, to configure it to work with your existing business processes. Unlimited locations, addresses, phone numbers, emails and custom data fields allow most unique needs to be met.
  • Internationalization & Localization. CiviCRM can store CRM data in many localized formats and supports most languages, currently including Brazilian Portuguese, German, Polish and Spanish.
  • Contacts. Store common nonprofit contact data (individuals, organizations, and households) that support donor management, case management, voter, and advocacy applications.
  • Relationships. Understand the relationships between any two contacts with standard (volunteer, employer, head of household) relationships or create your own unique custom relationship types.
  • Activities. Record standard activities (phone call, meeting, email) for any contact or create your own custom activities that meet your needs. External software can use the CiviCRM Application Programming Interface (API) to register activities with any contact, providing a comprehensive central repository of CRM information.
  • Smart Groups. Create smart groups based on any search criteria or create standard groups that are simply lists of contacts. The membership of a smart group changes automatically according to that moment’s search results.
  • Custom Data. Create unlimited custom data fields in virtually any format, including radio buttons, drop-down menus, etc. All custom fields are searchable and can define a smart group.
  • Support Multi-site Organizations and Networks. Centrally store data across multiple organizations or web sites.
  • Import and Export Functionality with De-duping. Import functionality intelligently maps CiviCRM fields to imported data and checks for duplicates based on user-defined criteria.
  • Permissions. With Drupal integration, access to certain groups of contacts can be limited to specific users, offering a way for volunteers to manage small portions of a larger CiviCRM database.
  • Website Integration. CiviCRM is integrated with both Drupal and Joomla. Web site registrations automatically become CiviCRM records and individuals can maintain their own CRM record.
  • Application Programming Interface (API). CiviCRM offers a fully documented API exposing all major functionality. For instance, you can search the database, register interactions with constituents, create or update contact information, etc. This allows CiviCRM to realistically be a central repository of virtually any nonprofit’s CRM information.

4. Corporate Contact information
info@civicrm.org

5. URLs that make sense
Links to demos, blog and forums

6. A personal thing that humanizes you (optional) - your call as to what it is.

Shawn - Thanks for pulling this together. Some additional thoughts for several sections:

3. Product Description
- Add some examples of organizations using it and results (Wikimedia Foundation raised over $10 million last year using CiviCRM, NY State Senate manages constituent information for their 62 senate offices, International Mountain Biking Association runs 100's of national and regional events ...).
- Add info / data on community / usage growth
The top 2 PPT docs on this page have some good info: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/CiviCon+2011+Presentations

4. Contact Info - They might want a postal mailing address. If so:
CiviCRM LLC
330 Upper Terrace
San Francisco, CA 94117

5. URLs - I would add the FLOSS online book and Packt Pub book URLs.
