Every page including the one to reset the extensions path is fatalling on

"Your extensions directory is not web server writable."

(I commented out line 124 in CRM_Core_Extensions to get past this)

Hershel:
Try renaming civicrm.settings.php and install fresh on an empty DB. Then it will (should) setup all the settings for you. Then just change the DB details. :)

That's what I do sometimes.

GregoryHeller:
Hershel,  I just tried what you recommended (did a fresh install on an empty db, and then changed my civicrm.settings.php file to use the migrated database) and i get the same error about the extensions directory not being writeable.

This is on a civihosting site btw.

What i did to get by the problem was go to the original source instance, edit the directories settings to remove the extensions directory, and then it worked.

It seems strange that the extensions directory being wrong causes this problem, but none of the other directories being wrong seem to cause it.

Hershel:
If you migrated a site yourself, it could well be that the directory is indeed not writable and just needs to have its permissions set correctly.

However if it's a site hosted by CiviHosting, I will contact you offline and we will fix it for you. :)

GregoryHeller:
I was migrating from another server.  And the directory path for the extensions directory was indeed wrong (non existent on the civihosting server).  I think the bigger issue is: why does civicrm NOT let you edit this if it is wrong.  :(
