Partial Payments for Event Registrations and Memberships

Has there been any work on Partial Payments for Event Registrations and Memberships since the idea was discussed in 2010 on this wiki page:

My work around has been to set a $100 payment option for a $500 event, and then follow up by making a contribution page for paying the balance.

Not in 4.3

but civiaccounts has been added to 4.3 which is a big step forward towards adding partial payment
