Case subject never used to be visible, and I think the database field was put there "just in case", so it wasn't originally an issue. Now it seems to be visible, so I think the question is not whether it should be editable (yes), but whether the spirit of civicase should be followed in that changes to it are recorded as an activity (I'd say yes), and then that becomes the question of whether it should be editable INDEPENDENTLY from open case. In other words, the choice is between either: editing open case should update the case subject, or else case subject should be changed the same way you change the other things, by having a change case subject activity.

I think the more intuitive way for the user would be to have a Change Case Subject activity, just like Change Case Status.  No?

Probably, just the only workplace I know that has actually dealt with this has put in custom code to change the subject based on editing open case because that makes sense to them, i.e. "it came from open case, so to edit it I edit open case".

Could flip a coin. (grin)

For the use case where one person opens cases, but multiple use the case once it has been opened, I don't think the subsequent users would know where it came from-- just that it's wrong :)

seems like "change case subject" might be the right way to do. gives us tracking and history of the changes

might be another addition to the case project

I also can't find a way to edit the case subject.

Has a developer done any work on this?

No progress on this yet. The 'model' for doing it is well-established (see the UI and code for 'change case type', 'change case status', etc.).

I would say that the question should not be if it is a bug, you apparently need it to be changeable?  ;)
