custom field not showing up

Hi folks,
I've created a custom field in a new install of CiviCRM 4.1.2, and applied it to 'Individuals' - but it's not showing up on 'New Individual' form, and I have no idea why. Any suggestions?

the field will be part of a Group of fields
each group of fields has a setting for either inline or tab
if inline then you should see your group of fields

Thanks for the reply. The field is part of a group of fields, and the display style of the group is set to 'tab'. But it's not being displayed anywhere, for some reason.

Tab custom fields do not show up on the edit contact form.
You can see them in the view contact screen, and there will be a edit button on that screen
