'Alter Contact Communication Preferences' Search Action Fails

I tried to use the 'Alter Contact Communication Preferences' Search Action for the first time and it fail with the following message:

I tried using the 'Alter Contact Communication Preferences' Search Action on the sandbox and it works.  It also works on a clone of our website on a physically separate test server (Ubuntu box in my basement).

However it fails on a test subdomain on our host 'CiviHosting.com'.  I have a vanilla installation of WordPress and CiviCRM (& sample DB) on the test subdomain.

Based on this I suspect there is the problem is caused by CiviHosting or my installation there.

Any ideas?

can you try and reproduce this on our demo servers

The sandbox I referred to is the WordPress demo server.  It works fine there as it does on my Ubuntu box.   It fails on our production and test domains on CiviHosting.  Weird!

As far as triggering the error.  I just run a search, select some contact, select the 'Alter Contact Communication Preferences' action and 'bang' it fails.  I'm not doing anything special.  It always fails on our two CiviHosting domains and never on the other servers.

I got some time to look into this again.  I completely deleted CiviCRM (code, DB, files) from my test domain and did a fresh install of 4.3 with the sample data.  I get the exact same error when I try to use the  'Alter Contact Communication Preferences' action.

I investigated this and found some invalid characters in the AlterPreferences.php file referenced in your first post. I fixed that on your test site, aglozier, and now it works fine. I also fixed this file on your main site.

Thank a lot Hershel.  I tested my main site and it works.

It is really weird that this bug only affects some hosts.  This points out the importance of testing on as many environments as possible.  If you use CiviCRM you should help with alpha and beta test.
