Confusing Survey Documentation: Survey Result
October 06, 2013, 08:49:05 pm
Around here: book.civicrm.org/user/current/survey/setup

The documentation for Surveys is very confusing - particularly the very last, mandatory step for "Results" - is this asking that you re-iterate all your questions and answers? Or is it assuming every question you ask has the same set of answers?

If you have two questions such as:

Whats Your Favorite Color:
Red
Blue

Whats Your Favorite Number:
1
2
3

What would you put in the results area?  Do you put (Red, Blue, 1, 2, 3) ?

Hi there,

We'll have a look at this, update the documentation, and let you know. Might take a few days. With a bit of luck, someone MAY be able to answer in the mean time.

Hi Christie

We've made some changes to the Survey Chapter in the CiviCRM book.
I've been through the sections to make sure they make sense and rewritten the results description.
We've also updated the book to reflect the latest version of CiviCRM (v4.3) which did include some changes to survey.

In answer to your original question when you create a survey, of any type, you;
- Think about what information you want to collect on the individual being surveyed (if any) - creating custom fields if needed.
- Create your question list and add these as custom fields to the correct Activity Type (e.g. PhoneBank)
- Create a new survey and add the questions using a profile.  A profile being a set of fields. You can create the profile when creating the survey
- You then add the survey Results options. The Result can be thought of as the status of that survey response and is separate from the questions - e.g. No Answer, Completed, Refused.

Cheers
Oliver
