After much go around I found that CiviCRM on Wordpress does NOT do listings. You have to setup a Search, even if it's on a field that has no data, and have the user click the search button. All contacts in the Group or what ever will then be listed. Funky put it works. I hoping this issue gets fixed in the 4.6 release.

And don't even get me started on the fact an end user can not add a spouse to a family / household membership on the front end, an issue that has been requested sense 2009.

It would be good to get you 'started' on creating this functionality if you so desperately need it.  Although it may have been requested since 2009, the only way it will get done is if someone who wants it actually does it themselves or pays someone else to do it.

Also note that for Drupal users (who might read this) that problem can be addressed via Webform, and the listing issue can be addressed via Views.

The WP civi community is still quite 'young' and hence it has contributed the integration with WP plugins that might help extend what civi can do.

Well that didn't take long to get a respond. I wish someone would have responded that fast on my initial post that was actually helpful. It was not my intention when picking Civi for this project, for a small all volunteer non-profit org, to become a PHP, Javascript and SQL programer.

I am not sure I like the implications of your last post.

I am a volunteer on this forum.

I check it almost every day and provide advice when I can, but I am not a techie and my experience is restricted to Drupal.  The advice I can offer is limited and I usually wait to see what other responses are provided when the CMS being used is WP or Joomla.

Accordingly, I let others respond to your post to begin with, but when you posted again on 9th Nov I responded within the limits of my abilities that same day.

Today I was just pointing out the reality of the situation, but my kids always tell me my sense of humour is poor, so perhaps I should have left out the first sentence.

Let's all try to keep the tone friendly and respectful here.

No one gets paid to give help on the forum and we're all very grateful to the volunteers like Joanne and Pete who extend their goodwill by doing so.

In general it is not constructive to complain about Civi's shortcomings or demand new features while offering nothing in support. As I was famously quoted (thanks Joanne :P ), the army of volunteers sitting around waiting to do your bidding for free simply doesn't exist.

The idiom "you get what you pay for" doesn't quite apply to Civi. When you downloaded it for free you got a whole lot more than you paid for. But you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you assume that extends to developing new features - development costs money. The new features in every CiviCRM release are contributed (through funding or coding) by the organizations that desire them. This is a great deal for them (they get a CRM for free that meets 99% of their needs and they only have to pay to develop the missing 1%; A 99% discount on your CRM software is hard to beat!) and a great deal for the rest of the community too. People who choose not to participate in this process and sit back waiting for someone else to fund the feature they need usually end up waiting a very long time.
