CiviGroup Roles Sync module slows user login 4.5.5

This is a repost based on the fact that this issue still prevails with v4.5:

I am current running a number of different installs of CiviCRM 4.5.5, 4.4.5, 4.4.4 & 4.4.3 all tied to Drupal 7. There is one particular install which has just over 60 roles in drupal and 60+ groups in Civicrm that CiviGroup Roles Sync must synchronize to manage permissions. I notice that login takes a very long time whenever the CiviGroup Roles Sync module is enabled to facilitate this synchronisation. We have seen login times of between 60-90 seconds. If I disable the module login happens at its usual speed. Please verify and advise as to a solutions to this issue.

It was suggested that the particular module doesnot support large numbers of group sand would have to be reworked. My question is can I donate to have the civicrm team fix this  issue.

I suspect to handle large number of groups, the code will need to be restructured and potentially cache some work etc / do something on a nightly basis etc. I dont think this will be a trivial project, so potentially a 20+ hour project
