We have just setup CiviSMTP and sending messages seems to work fine. In the test newsletter we have just created, we have added a not existing email address (notexisting@notexisting.ourdomain.com) on purpose to test the bounces.

When I look at the stats of the newsletter, the bounce count = 0 though and there doesn't seem to be a bouncing email at all. Before we had CiviSMTP set up, at least the bounces came back to our "sender email" address as configured in CiviCRM. What might be going wrong?

Also, I don't seem to be able to reply to the email address that I have received the test newsletter from (newsletter+r.18.21.85c77abda8305e23@ourdomain.com). Is there a setup step that I might have missed?

please make sure step 6 of the "Account Setup How-To" is configured correctly:

http://civismtp.uas.coop/drupal/node/1

particularly the part about the "Mail Accounts" if you're using CiviCRM 2.2+

make sure only the specified settings are set.

I double-checked it and in fact I over-read the line that says "Edit the default account and set the following values only", so I set too many values.

Maybe you could emphasize the "following values only" part?
