Contribution page *sometimes* bypassing PayPal page??

I recently upgraded from CiviCRM 2.1 to 3.1.3.

I have a Contribution Page set up to use PayPal Website Payments Standard, which we've been using without any problems for other contribution pages for 2 years now. In fact, the new Page is just a duplicate of one of the existing ones, with title/amount info modified.

Earlier today, at least 2 people went through the contribution process without ever being taken to PayPal. Both the contribution page form as well as the "review" page load properly, but when they clicked continue on the "review" page, instead of going to PayPal to actually make the payment, they were taken directly to the "success/thank you" page.

The email notice was sent to both the donor as well as the site owner as normal--but without any financial/payment information, just their contact info.

Within CiviCRM, the donation shows up as "completed" but with $0.00 as the amount.

In both cases, the donor was *not* logged in as a Drupal/CiviCRM user.

However, before--and since--these two cases, at least a half-dozen test donations have been put through successfully, when both logged in *and* logged out, and on a variety of platforms/browsers (IE 6, FireFox, Safari, Windows XP, Mac OS X).

Anyone else have this happen, and any suggestions?

I should have been more clear: When I said "test donations" I meant *real* ones. That is, we would actually go through the live process, and get as far as the PayPal page before stopping. In the 2 earlier cases, the PayPal page never even came up--it went straight from the "info review" page to the "thank you" page without ever asking for credit card/PayPal info.

To reiterate: 3 times out of 20, when someone tries to make a donation, they'll fill out the form, then verify their information--and are then taken directly to the Thank You page without ever being taken to the PayPal page to make the actual donation.

The receipt email is sent out with all information except the transaction info, and the contribution is stored in CiviCRM as "$0.00" but "Completed".

This is using version 3.13, which was an upgrade from 2.1.

However, this is happening sporadically--it happened twice in a row, then worked fine over a dozen times, then happened once more today.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I don't recall hearing of this type of problem with PayPal :-( Did you check your Apache logs and CiviCRM.log.* log file to see if any helpful errors recorded there? Can you get browser and cookie settings from someone where this happened and try to see if it's related to client-side issue? Not sure what else to suggest...

Well, I just checked my CiviCRM.log file; nothing has shown up there since 2/23, which was before the upgrade from 2.1 to 3.1.3.

I just checked the server log for the third incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon at 4:32pm EST; since this would be 1:32pm Pacific, I isolated the section which takes place during that period. Total length: 123 lines.

Then I checked for a *successful* donation from later on the same day. Total length: just 12 lines (plus the external IPN post immediately afterwards, which I presume is the PayPal server posting the payment confirmation info back to my server? This doesn't show up at the end of the bad donation, of course).

I've attached a text file containing both incidents, since it'd be way too unwieldy to post directly here. I've also removed as much unnecessary stuff as possible (browser info, IP addresses, etc) to try and cut both incidents down to size.

Again, any insight would be appreciated, thanks...

D'oh!! OK, thanks, didn't know that...

Well, that makes it a bit easier; lessee here...

I've downloaded the log, and have included everything from March 16 in the attached text file.

On March 16, there were a total of 4 donations:

Successful donation at 12:32pm EST (09:32 Pacific)
Successful donation at 1:24pm EST (10:24 Pacific)
SKIPPED PAYPAL at 4:32pm EST (13:32 Pacific)
Successful donation at 10:41pm EST (19:41 Pacific)

The log only shows the first, second and fourth donations--it skips over the bad one completely, even though it did send email notices and did add an entry (of $0.00 / Pending) to CiviContribute.

Now, there are two other incidents logged on March 16, both of which are backtrace (?) error strings, but they show up way before (01:27) and much later (23:23) than any of the 4 contributions, so I presume those are irrelevent?
