register for multiple events at one time?
October 26, 2007, 02:24:59 am
I was hoping to use CiviCRM so that participants can pre-register for an upcoming conference. This conference is really just composed of several sub-sessions that each have their own variable fee. Each participant will sign up for one or more sessions creating a custom set of multiple sessions - with a different total price payable.

I'm trying to think of a way to do this with CiviEvent. At the moment I can only think to have them register and pay for each session independently. This is a big hassle for them and for us considering the PayPal fees for every transaction.

Can anyone think of a way around this?

 ???

Event Price Sets might be a closer match for what you want to do, check:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Price+Sets

this is part of civievent 1.8/1.9

Okay so I would like to do the same, allow them to choose what they want to pay for.  Unfortunately, I have no Idea what that wiki was saying.  I don't have the knowhow to program this badboy myself.  I can't  just build a price list from the administer civicrm page?  I mean whats the easiest way to do this?  Maybe just create a selection for each possible combination and have them choose one?
Thanks a heap

Good news - Price Sets can be added and managed from "Administer CiviCRM" >> CiviEvent section.

Bad news - there's no formal documentation on how to use them yet, so you'll have to muck around a bit. Basically, each field in a price set is a different option you can give folks to include in their registration (and you assign a price to it).

To get to the heart of my question.  How do I change it so they can select more than one selection to pay for at the same time?  As it is now they can only select one thing to pay for per transaction.

By setting up a price set w/ multiple price set fields. Each field is a different "selection to pay for". Please take a few minutes to experiment.
* Create a Price Set
* Add a few fields to it - different types (radio, text/amount)
* Go to Manage Events >> Configure >> Fees and select your Price Set
* Try out event registration (test-drive) and you should see your selections.

 - should help w/ your questions.

In case it helps, what Dave is describing will work if you can rethink your event so it is a single conference and that the separate workshops/sessions are just covered by entering them as an options in a CheckBox Price Field in the Price Set that you use for the Event.

That way people can click on eg
Orange Workshop (Wed 3-5) $20
Blue Workshop (Wed 3-5) $10

etc

Then people can just tick the sessions and the cost will be summed.

OMG!  That works fantastically.  The operative word for anyone struggling with this is to make it a CHECKBOX PRICE FIELD  The other selections (radio, drop down...) only allow for one pricing option to be selected at one time checkbox allows for many selections to be made by the registrant.  Exactly what I was looking for, thanks you guys are like a pack of wild CiviCRM leopards methodically attacking wildebeest newbie questions.  Rock on Carnivores!

Is it possible in CiviEvent to show a list of multiple events that are available and have users register for them all at once?  Assume these are not part of a conference or series..

Hey Lobo,

I can't speak for jase700 but I'm currently planning out how/if I can use Civi for continuing ed course registrations. It's not too much to get events to look like courses but since most users will be signing up for multiple courses at once this would be a great use case for a multiple or quick registration option.

Re: register for multiple events at one time?

Sadly no, each course has it's own date range, location, cost and additional costs(price lists) so all the information is different for each course.  I'm thinking I can make each registrant create a CMS user, customize the events list so authenticated users see a check box in the table, clicking on continue will take the users to a (long) custom page pulling the options from each course into an individual table section and then a custom payment page following that. However I've just started looking into this so there could be easier methods.

Either way I was just sharing my use case, I think this example is above and beyond what should be included in an event reg system.
