user warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource....
November 03, 2010, 08:36:16 pm
I installed and compiled the Drupal version of CiviCRM, which by the way is an amazing program. I loved the demo!
I tried to visit it by clicking the CiviCRM link in my Navigation menu and it gave me this error:

user warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "CRM/common/jquery.files.tpl" in /home/fortsteu/public_html/my/sites/all/modules/civicrm/packages/Smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1093.
user warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "CRM/common/drupal.tpl" in /home/fortsteu/public_html/my/sites/all/modules/civicrm/packages/Smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1093.

I do not know what this means, and I was not able to do anything with the program itself.

I checked on line 1093 in both sets of code, and iy basically says to display the error message if there is an error, of which it did. Nevertheless, it's useless without being able to work.

I am running PHP version 5, I have no clue what my MySQL version I am using, but I am running cPanel version 11.25.0(release) if that helps at all.

Thanks alot for your help :),

Please check if your CIVICRM_TEMPLATE_COMPILEDIR (in civicrm.settings.php) is correct and if your webserver have read permissions to all the files. Also make sure that $civicrm_root/templates directory contains all the necessary files, including those mentioned in the error.

Thx,
m

Hi there,

Just noticed that this is your first post and that you're using the 3.3alpha version.

The 3.3alphaX versions are not yet official releases. 3.3 is still under development and still has some glitches and bugs, and these Smarty errors on install or upgrade seem to be a common issue.

If standard fixes and Michał's suggestions don't work, and if your goal is to get a working version of CiviCRM up, running and stable, I'd suggest going with 3.2 instead. 3.2 is the latest official, stable release. It's likely to be several weeks to a few months until 3.3 is ready for a full release and working reliably out of the box.

If, however, you're a developer and you want to get stuck in on helping to get the very latest version ready to go, your enthusiasm will be very welcome here :) and there's a bit of a discussion on this particular issue going on already at http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,16278.0.html - I'm sure your input would be warmly received!

Hope your experience with CiviCRM proves to be a good one!
