ACL Roles for Smart Groups?
November 25, 2007, 07:59:49 pm
Hi everyone,
From reading the documentation it seems like I should be able to assign ACL roles to smart groups that are set to an access control type.  I've created two smart groups that I set to access control type.  But when I go to administer civicrm >> access control >> assign users to civicrm roles >> new role assignment, I only see groups (not smart groups) that are access control type.

Any ideas?

can you gimme the url of the documentation page that says you can have smart groups in a ACL group role. The documentation is incorrect and needs to be fixed :)

For efficiency purposes the acl role needs to be assigned to a static group

Donald,
Perhaps it's just confusing rather than wrong:

"This applies to both regular and smart GROUPS" on
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Assign+Users+to+Roles

Plus, the fact that you can set a smart group as a access control type is confusing.

This is a bummer.  How can I have a dynamic group (e.g. current members) that has access to view a profile that I don't want other authenticated users to have?  Is it possible to have a drupal access role that is determined by members of a smart group?

bradley:

We'll fix the documentation and make it more clear sometime this week

can you please file an issue for the smart grouop / access control setting since it is invalid. We'll take care of it for the 2.0 release

There is no easy solution for your current use case :(. We need to work on ACL's a bit more and make them significantly more efficient when operation ON smart groups. Allowing smart groups to be an ACL owner might be the next step after that
