Replace Registration?
August 16, 2011, 08:52:00 am
With the CiviCRM Joomla Authentication Plugin we can correctly manage 99% of how users register/join, renew, expire, etc.  However, we see there is a huge security hole by not replacing or deactivating the stock Joomla Registration/Create Account system.  I would like to simply put in a redirect, but can't find where that would be placed.  If someone could point me in the right direction, i would really appreciate it.  In addition, if this could become part of the Auth Plugin, that would be fantastic!

Thanks,
Curtis

try the first plugin as part of this package:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extension-specific/civicrm/10146

or this component, which replaces the native com_user:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Joomla+User+Registration+Restriction

the latter is not 1.6+ compatible. i suspect the plugin will work in 1.6, though i haven't tested

there's about 4-5 of us in the community that have built these various extensions for extending integration with J and C. unfortunately, the extensions are scattered about a bit, and in various stages of compatibility with the various versions of J and C. we'll try to get some more of these updated and organized a bit better over coming months.

Thanks for the info.  I believe i had talked with Elin previously about updates to support 1.6/1.7.

I installed the Registration Plugin:  http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jcivicrm/frs/
...but like all 1.5 plugins/modules, there are no parameters visible to select/modify in 1.6/1.7.

I look forward to the upgraded versions.  Thank you all for your outstanding work.
Curtis

Is there a version of this that works with Joomla 3.x and civiCRM 4.3.X?

Hi Fred

As this is a Joomla plugin it is not affected by CiviCRM version changes.

Most 2.5 Joomla plugins should be compatible with Joomla 3 http://docs.joomla.org/Will_my_Joomla!_2.5_extensions_work_with_Joomla!_3.x%3F

Okay. I downloaded and have tried to install the plg_sstem_civiregistration_v2.5 extension without success. When I try to install using the .zip file I get a 'JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file' warning. When I unzip the file and try to install from directory, I get a 'Path does not have a valid package.' error. Any suggestions for how to get it installed. I'm running Joomla 3.15.

Thank you!

It installed without a hitch and appears to do just what I need on my production server. The form I want to link to is now showing up on my homepage, but I think I can fixed that my changing the URI. Before installing/testing in on my production server, I installed and tested in on my localhost development system, where it failed. When redirecting locally, it gives me the following error.

Initialization Error

Array
(
    [callback] => Array
        (

  • => CRM_Core_Error
  • [1] => simpleHandler
            )

Code: [Select]

    [message] => DB Error: connect failed
    [mode] => 16
    [debug_info] =>  [nativecode=mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'cssdaweb_csdweb'@'localhost' (using password: YES)]
    [type] => DB_Error
    [user_info] =>  [nativecode=mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'cssdaweb_csdweb'@'localhost' (using password: YES)]
    [to_string] => [db_error: message="DB Error: connect failed" code=-24 mode=callback callback=CRM_Core_Error::simpleHandler prefix="" info=" [nativecode=mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'cssdaweb_csdweb'@'localhost' (using password: YES)]"]

Hi Fred

Your error in localhost does not suggest an issue with the plugin.

The plugin works by redirecting Joomla registration to the URI of a Joomla page that contains your CiviCRM registration (example:www.mysite.com/civicrm-registration).
It does this by looking for 'registration' in the url's query string.

Its designed to force all Joomla registrations through CiviCRM.

Is this what you are looking for?
