Is contact synced to drupal user?

Is there a way to find out if a contact is synced to a Drupal user via the API (or some other method from within a CiviCRM hook?)

I can tell by looking at the contact in the web browser, but how would I do it programatically?

erm - so that's

civicrm_api('uf_match','get', $params);

in case anyone sees this thread & thinks they should call uf match direct.
