PayPal works fine for Event Registration, but not for Membership Signup [SOLVED]

This is definitely a strange occurrence.

The Paypal link for an event registration works fine as does the membership renewal page. They both take me to the live PayPal log in screen without any problems, and it reflects the correct data for the association.

However, when users try to signup for membership, and then click on the confirm button to then go to PayPal to process the payment, the system abruptly returns them to the main page of the site.

I tested the contribution page using Test Drive and it heads to the sandbox without an issue.   I could use some help as this is costing me time, and the association I support membership signups.

UPDATE:  I've tracked down the problem to an issue with the included profiles on the page.    This was not an issue until the last 4.1.1 release, it worked fine under 4.1.0.  I did notice that on the renew membership page, when I clicked on 'Confirm' to pay for the renewal, Firefox did reflect in the bottom left corner that the system was waiting on a response from www.PayPal.com, whereas the Membership Application page only shows that the system was waiting on the local site just before the home page appears.

I did some additional searching in the forums.  Turns out the issue was caused by including a Joomla registration block with the membership form, as described here:

The fix for this was to apply the patch as identified in the topic below:

This patch will appear in v4.1.2 ... but I can confirm, it corrected the issue I was having with a new membership not completing and going to PayPal.  Because of the registration issue, the system would never transfer the user to PayPal to complete the membership fee payment.
