HOT! -Silent Import Error - Can't get to step 3 (contacts) or step 2 (donations)

CiviCRM using Drupal 7.14 backend.

Every time I attempt to import contacts, step 1 (telling it to import) and step 2 (mapping fields) works fine.  After I map fields, I hit continue... I'm automatically sent back to step 1 like I was starting again.  Nothing imports, no visible errors.  I have tried with multiple "rows" in my CSV, both the full document (778 items) or just a twenty item sampler.  I have tried multiple configurations on which fields to import, which ones to skip, etc.   nothing works.  Any ideas?

To further compound this issue, if I attempt to import Donations instead of contacts, I can't get past step 1.  Every time I hit continue, the page just reverts back to step 1.

I have a customer who is freaking out, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

can u try with the same data file (with scrambled similar data) on the demo machine

Most of the times the below has occured, it is due to an apache config / php settings issue.

Yes, the sample data does import (at least the 20 records I tested) into Demo.

So if your thesis is correct, it must be an apache/php issue on my end.  Any ideas what and why and a fix?

Well that's a bummer.

You stated that it has happened before due to Apache or PHP issues.  I was digging through forums, but have not found much information of others having this issue.  If you have heard about it, where?   Not asking for you to fix the issue for me, but if anybody who reads this could point me in the direction of others having this issue, it would be helpful.
