Error 500 - Internal server error
May 18, 2007, 01:49:09 am
Hye !

I tryed to install civicrm component using both solutions :
- upload of the package
- unzip, upload to /joomla/components/com_civicrm directory and install from the directory

Each time, I have the error message "Error 500 - Internal server error".

You'll find the software configuration in my signature. For the hardware, I use a 1&1 business linux webhosting.

Until now, I never met any problem installing components. And I don't find an answer in the following page : http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Install+CiviCRM+for+Joomla+or+Mambo

Does someone has an idea of where the problem comes from ?

Thanks,

FX

Any chance you can check apache error_log to see what the specific error was?

Thx,

The performance values on the shared server are limited ...
For the memory to 32 M
For the max_execution_time to 600

It's not possible to change these values, but, using php5 it may helps. To switch from php4 to php5, place an .htaccess in the site root containing "AddType x-mapp-php5 .php".

I also asked for
-          PHP 5.X with SOAP and DOM extensions
-          Postfix 2.2 (a mailer)
-          Perl 5.8.X.

There would be an other solution, used by virtuemart : to place at the disposal a pack of installation including joomla and civicrm. Would this be possible ?

Are the values you're giving available on your webhost? These are exactly what is needed to run CiviCRM on Joomla.

Regarding the prepackaged version, I guess it is technically possible, but don't think it will jump on development critical path anytime soon. If you have resources to work on such contribution and than maintain it, you'll get necessary support from our team.

Given by phone by 1&1. Is there any solution to test these values ?

Regarding the prepackaged version, I'd be honored to work on such contribution. I just fear not to be good enough : I just start with joomla and have never programed in php. If a doc exists I can try ...

By the way : the problem still exists with php5 ...

in general for 500 Internal Server Error (or blank page issues)

it makes things a LOT easier if we get the specific error message from your apache/php error logs. Those logs tell us exactly what failed and why, and helps us suggest something more specific rather than making random guesses :(

:D I do agree with you all. The only problem is to get this log back from the web hoster ... Promise, I'll try on monday (they're closed during the we)  :-\

Beside, I am wondering if, instead of using the big huge package, I could install CiviCRM with the three components : civimember, civimail and civicontribute. Will I have the same result or is the pack containing more things than the three components ?  ???

May be cutting civicrm.xml file in several parts could help ?

There is more to the package than the 3 components - and at this time they cannot be installed separately. Hopefully you'll be able to get us more info on your error messages.

Is there any other solution to generate a log with joomla for exemple ?

Not really... "Internal server error" is generated by httpd server (apache, lighthttpd, etc) which is a step before the application (joomla) is executed...

:D After an unlucky week, someone at 1&1 changed some values on the server and the civicrm pack is now available.

I don't have any log to present you, but the answer belongs to the web host ...

May this topic helps you !  ;) and thank you Michat and Donald for your help

The best way to try and diagnose this is to take a look at your webserver (apache most likely) error log.
