Joomla vs Drupal downloads on SF

Looks like Joomla is in the lead with 377 to 343 for Drupal.

That's interesting.  My impression was that CiviCRM was more integrated with Drupal and therefore would have more installs that way.

GOOD POINT!

I think more people use Joomla because it's more accessible (i.e. less complex), and the templates look so much better, not to mention the thousands of components at extensions.joomla.org

I have used both, and really appreciate the ability to add ACLs on the fly in Drupal, but what I enjoy more is being able to bring up an attractive, functional site in Joomla in a couple of minutes, with my favorite components.

Greenberg also pointed out in one post that he suspects that Civi is overkill for a lot of orgs, and that Drupal has gone more "business" than NGO and NPO, and that there is some feeling in the Drupal community that Civi has violated the Drupal "way"...maybe that explains some of it.

Thanks for the post...
Ken

From our ping back stats, for 2.0.x (not including any alphas or betas): we have 173 drupal sites and 94 joomla sites pinging back. I suspect these are more reliable numbers that the download stats. However we are quite surprised (and pleased) as to the high percentage of joomla sites out there

We met a couple of the core joomla developers in new orleans earlier this week and have a few ideas on how to significanly improve the installation and upgrade process for Joomla 1.5. We'll also add support for some joomla events (onLogin, onSaveUser) to sync the email address and civicrm email address in Joomla 1.5 / 2.1

Thanks, Donald!  Very interesting.   So the "conversion" rate is higher for Drupal....My read is that the Drupal downloads are more "serious" devs who are more likely to develop multiple sites, vs. "dabblers" who might be more likely to be looking at Joomla.

Thanks for the encouraging words on Joomla integration!
Best,
Ken
