Clean install of 4.4 alpha1 has a problems with accented characters in database
August 20, 2013, 03:53:50 am
I installed civi 4.3.5 on test site with test data upgraded sucessfully to 4.4. alpha1, under Ubuntu 13.04 with WordPress 3.6. Using Hungarian as main language.

To remove test data I decided to remove civi from WordPress  and delete civicrm database.

After that I created new civicrm database with several collation utf8_unicode_ci, utf8_general_ci. When installed 4.4 alpha1 the country names, in location settings, and through all originally set data, looks like using wrong accented characters. Tried several times.

I went back to the 4.3.5 version clean install with  utf8_unicode_ci collations, the install were successfull and looks good.
Something happened in 4.4 alpha install code.

Ignore this, the Ubuntu 13.04 MySQL uses latin1 as default collation, this caused the problems.

Changing to utf_unicode_ci collation in civicrm database scheme. Solved the problem.
