Editing Registrations (Price Set Choices)
September 08, 2013, 02:51:30 pm
Hello.
I see that there was discussion back in 2010 about working to enable the ability to edit price set choices for event registration:
http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,12443.msg53611.html#msg53611
...and I don't see anything more recent than that.

Am I missing more recent developments?

When our participants change their mind, or realize they made a mistake in their registration, our only option seems to be to delete the registration and recreate it with the changes. And it gets even more complicated for the changes that involve additional charges ($), or refunds.

Ideally, we'd like to let the participant go back in and make changes to their registration, and either pay more or get a refund through our payment processor. Or, even if we could allow the participant pay more, we could always dispense refunds manually.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

no progress on that one as yet.

There is this MIH: http://civicrm.org/make-it-happen#Self service view, update and cancel for CiviEvent and better event badges

hopefully your org / client will help with the MIH and get more improvements into CiviCRM

Thanks, Lobo.

We'd be happy to contribute to the MIH, since it does get us a little closer.

Perhaps this could be a future MIH? There certainly seems to be some interest.

yeah, i think the price set MIH and the "payment modification"/adjustment will make a good follow on MIH

for now, would be great to get the self service view, update and cancel part funded for 4.5. If you can help corral some more folks into making this happen, that would be great :)

A bit surprising that even though it seems so useful and needed for most events, the MIH has not attracted a lot of attention / funding. Most of the current funding was for the extended event badge aspect of the MIH

Ok, I just got approval to donate some money toward that MiH. But before I do, I was wondering if it would be better to have us spend more to hire a programmer to actually do the work to add the price set editing capabilities. Any estimate on how much time/money that would take? It might be that we can't afford it.

I'm asking because I see that the MiH hasn't made any more progress. And I don't really have connections with other organizations to encourage them to chip in.

I think there are lots of layers to this issue:

If we keep it simple and restrict it to:

a. Do the changes at the backend only (i.e. only staff and admin can do it)

b. All payment processor interactions are done manually. i.e. the system only changes the price set info and does not interact with the payment processor for refunds / cancellations / adjustments

I suspect its a 40-60 hour project, i.e a 4K - 7K project :).

I think once we have the core changes in, the other changes can be made in later phases. Note that this is just a ball park estimate.

Thanks, Lobo. My organization has given its preliminary approval to fund, or partner in funding the development of these editing abilities. How should we proceed?

Jakecivi,
When you posted this, we were still getting some of the wrinkles ironed out. Then I forgot to come back to it. Sorry. Hopefully you've seen by now that the 4.5 release did in fact include these edit registration functions and they work very well.
