Address contacts in a specific role

Hello community,

our individual contacts relate to organizations in different roles. Each of this roles may hold an email-address (and other contact data). We are looking for a possibility to address this emails in bulk mailings.

Example:
Individual Jane Doe works for a company TinyCorp, is member of an association LittleAssoc and teaches at a university LocalUni.

We need to send mass mails and choose the email addresses based on relationships like this. If we address a (smart) group "Academic teachers" the mail to Jane should go to "jane.doe@localuni.org", if sending to group "Company contacts" to "jane.dow@tinycorp.com and so on.

I know about

 * Sending to "Other" E-mail address (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,35035.0.html) and therefor about
 * Choose location when sending mail through CiviMail (https://civicrm.org/blogs/jamie/choose-location-when-sending-mail-through-civimail)

but that approach does not exactly fit our needs as it uses locations.

Are there any workarounds? Does anybody know how to achieve this?
