Upgrade from 1.9 to 2.1 - path of least resistance ?
November 07, 2008, 10:42:08 pm
We are currently running
CiviCRM  1.9.11960
Drupal 5.3
MySQL 4.1.22
PHP 5.1.6

Perhaps it is time to begin the process of moving to
CiviCRM 2.1.1
Drupal 6
MySQL 5
PHP 5.2

I'll probably use a different server for my attempt, so as I understand it here are my steps.

(1) Get my current configuration running on the new server and back everything up so I can start with a working version.

(2) Upgrade to CiviCRM 2.0 which only runs under Drupal 2.x

(3) Follow the upgrade steps to upgrade both Drupal to 6.0 and CiviCRM to 2.1

(4) Verify that the new site is running.

(5) Take the production site offline and revert the new site back to set 1 with the latest data.

(6) Redo steps 2 to 4

Its this the steps that others are doing?

Suggestions.

Note that we should release CiviCRM 2.1.2 any day now, with fixes to some bugs in the upgrade process – so you might want to wait a bit.

The steps look good to me. :)

You can get valuable help from the CiviCRM DB Tools package.  Run it between upgrade steps to identify problem areas and correct problems introduce by bugs in the upgrade code.
