CiviCRM 1.7 - beta or stable???

Hi,
I'm a little confused about package-names on sourceforge.net... The current releases are all in a branch called "stable" but the names of the packages include "beta"..!?
What is correct so far? beta or stable? And why using both words?

Blackfox:

there is another branch called latest which we use to publish the latest code. We hide that branch during a new / soon-to-be new release

We consider the beta release stable and would like to encourage people to download it. Hence its in the stable branch

If folks are already running CiviCRM they might want to wait till we do a final release. For new folks, we want them to download and install the stable release (which in this case is 1.7 beta)

We actively support the "stable" release only. We do not have the resources to support more than one release
