Create event and list all events on the Frontend
February 04, 2009, 04:03:21 pm
Hey

I am still in the feasibility stage of the civicrm system. We run an outdoor club (www.utsoac.org.au) with different trips from rock climbing, to canyoning and many more.

a) Is there a way with civicrm for registered members to create events on frontend? So far I found only the possibility to create them in the back end.

b) Can CiviCRM list all events (even if they belong to different categories) on the frontpage? I am using Joomla and when ever I want to create a frontend menu  I have to  provide the 'contribution or event ID' which that the links is only to one event.

Can CiviCRM meet those requirements? I haven found something similar to civic, but the I get the feeling it might not be the thing we are looking for. Thanks for all your comments!!!!!

Chris

Setup:
Joomla 1.5.9
CiviCRM 2.1.4

I'm not sure about civi users on the frontend. To expose the events on the frontend, you can do it by using the feeds on the 'CiviEvent' or 'Manage Event' page.

1. You can get a html formatted page which you can set as an 'external link' in joomla (it will even retain all your css for links). It will have all the public upcoming enabled events from all categories listed. You can even format it the way you want.

2. You can use the 'ical' feed and put it on any calendar that supports ical including google calendar.

3. The other cool thing you can do is 'add georss' using the rss2georss webservice (http://www.geonames.org/rss-to-georss-converter.html) and map all your events in any mapping application!

thank you that worked.

Does some know to create events on the frontend? We would like enable our member create public events (in our cause this would be outdoor trips and no donate campaigns or the like) . As far as I can see it this can only be done in the backend.

thanks

I'm also want to know how to create Event from front page and show listing of all events. We are want to use CiviEvent as Project Listing so that people will be able to create Projects and other will be able to participate in it.

You will need to write a custom component to allow folks to create events from the front end in joomla. CiviEvents are a bit heavyweight objects and restricted to backend users only

if u do the above, please share your changes

To create a custom component, where is the documentation for using the api with joomla?  I see all the documentation for Drupal, but not Joomla.
