Import Participant problems
April 24, 2009, 03:47:51 am
Hi - we had an import nightmare with Participants and have replicated problem on demo - well almost

We have Participant Custom Data fields Select type (eg Label = green, Value = gr, and Label = red, value = rd)

When I imported, I imported field as 'green'.

When exposing the data in Views we found we were seeing some data as 'values' and some as 'labels'.

Investigation showed that while I had imported 'green' (the Option Label) the database has overwritten the 'option value' for that contact as 'green'.

Also seemed that the data was not showing if we clicked Edit on the Contacts Event record even though it was recording it in the back end.

I set up a custom participant field in Demo, PD test, field 1, Label - green, Value - gr, and  Label - red, value rd.

I then imported for Contact ID

# 115 = red >> result shows "not found" in Participant search but shows red at http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view/participant?reset=1&action=update&id=61&cid=115&context=search

116 = rd >> results shows "found" in Participant search = red, and also shows 'red' at http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view/participant?reset=1&action=update&id=61&cid=116&context=search

So I think something strange is going on, that both the Label and Value are being imported, but the Label ends up overwriting Value option.

Does that make sense.

Am sure it will in the backend. Hopefully an easy fix if as I suspect it is a bug.

Hmm - on second view seems 115 is not showing in at Edit Event - must be going cross-eyed. But i do think there is some errant behaviour.

Should Import Partipant require the Label value or Option value?

And what should it do if it requires one but the import includes the other - report an error?
