Error when I try to run index.php during installation
July 11, 2008, 02:57:28 pm
I've installed the Bitnami Drupal 5 stack. I've downloaded the CiviCRM tarball from SourceForge. Now I'm trying to exercise this step:

---
    * Point your web browser to the following URL:

http://<your_drupal_home>/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/install/index.php
---

The problem is that when I use "Open File:" and go to that file, I get this error message:

---
Firefox can't find the file at /Y:/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/install/$drupalURL
---

Where should the $drupalURL value be coming from?

Thanks a lot,
Alan

I’m not sure I fully get what you’re doing, but the idea is not to open a file with your OS’s ‘Open File…’ selector, but rather to visit a certain URL with your web browser (so more like Firefox’s ‘Open Location…’). This distinction is important.

So, if your Drupal stack is at http://localhost/drupal/ (i.e., this is the address you visit to access your Drupal installation), you should try going to http://localhost/drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/install/index.php
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

That helped, thanks. I'm using the Bitnami Drupal stack, so "localhost" had to be replaced with another string, but overall it seems to have worked. The first time I tried installing CiviCRM, it told me my username was wrong. But when I fixed it, it chugged along for a bit. I briefly went to another browser tab. When I came back, the browser had taken me to the familiar Drupal installation page. Am I right in deducing from this that the CiviCRM installation process worked? I didn't actually see what was going on at the time.

It looks like the CiviCRM installation DID work.
