Looks like there was a bug with these symptoms which was fixed in the just-released 3.0.1 release:

I tried the upgrade again to 3.0.1, and got the following error:

DB Error: unknown error

Database Error Code: Duplicate column name 'label_a_b', 1060


see full error attached.


What should we do to rectify this?

Andrew,

Your database is corrupt (from what i remember) i.e the db is partially in 3.0 state.
This error is another proof for the same, since label_a_b column was added in 3.0 and can only result in duplicate error if your db is in partially upgraded state.

Please use the database (or dump) on which upgrade was never tried.
In case you don't have one you 'll need to manually revert effects of the queries in the file - /CRM/Upgrade/Incremental/sql/3.0.alpha1.mysql.tpl. If this is the case and you don't have mysql skills, you can contact http://civicrm.org/professional for the paid help.

Hi Deepak,

This was on a 2.2.8 clean database, it is however the second time that I have tried 3.0.1 on this specific copy.

Some issues were resolved a couple of months ago after we experienced issues on a previous upgrade, this was done by one of the Civi team. Is there a possibility that this fix is causing us problems?

I don't think so, since 3.0 came out on 1st of this month.

Deepak,

A slight misunderstanding here.... not saying that I had issues with 3.0.0 or 3.0.1 a couple of months ago, but rather with the 2.2.8 upgrade a couple of months ago... Check forum as I posted it...

So, what next?

2 options:

a. you might want to start looking into the upgrade script and step thru it and figure out what is failing and why. If you narrow it down to a bug in the upgrade process, please report back. Reporting back with a patch will be even better

b. If you are not up to doing step a, you might want to hire someone else from the services listing to help you out with it
