I have a canadian group who would be a likely co-sponsor of this functionality.  The only catch is they use Joomla 1.5 and are not planning on upgrading soon.
Try CiviTeacher: the online video tutorial CiviCRM learning library.

Heh Stoob,
This is great news.
You might want to check out the comments from Andrew Perry on the d.o site mentioned earlier in this thread. CiviAccounts is designed so that it should be relatively straightforward to develop functionality for taxes in a jurisdiction.

I don't see taxes for a jurisidiction being included in core CiviCRM. Lobo has said there may be improvements in the extension framework that would allow php and tpl files to be deployed in extensions. This would allow current Drupal modules that only use CiviCRM constructs to be changed into extensions fairly easily, so long as they just use CiviCRM hooks and APIs (ie don't use the Drupal FAPI). As soon as that is done (30 hours or so??) then a Canadian taxes extension could be put together.

We are aiming to have CiviAccounts ready by the 4.2 freeze. The taxes extension could come after that.

I don't think Joomla! 1.5 is supported anymore in 4.1, so your client would need to upgrade their Joomla!

Does this sound workable?

We should start by making the improvement of the extension framework into an MIH. I'll touch base with Lobo and Eileen on this.

Hi Guys,
The last two messages came in when I was on vacation so I'm just getting to them.

This sounds like great news about the extensions. I'm happy to share the wealth regarding our tax modifications and had hoped to come up with a modular way of integrating it with civiCRM. There was a lot of activity on the Drupal Groups site after I posted the mods with a call for help in developing a module but I haven't heard anything since.

I'm planning two new D7/civiCRM sites this year so I'm still gunning for a solid modular solution. I'm certainly happy to get help or give help in getting it done  ;D
