CiviGroup Role Sync strange behaviour - creates invalid group memberships
January 15, 2010, 08:39:45 pm
Drupal 6.15 and CiviCRM 3.1 beta.
I have groups like Group1 Lead, Group2 Lead, group 3 Lead,...
I have defined a Role in Drupal for all the Leads
I have the Associations rules defined in CiviGroup Role sync: Group1 Lead <--> Leads, Group2 Lead <-->Leads, Group3 Leads <--> Leads,...
The idea is to have each Group Lead with the same basic role in Drupal, but access to his Group in CiviCRM

When i add a contact to Group1 Lead, though, he gets immediate and automatic (and wrong <g>) membership in Group2 Lead, group3 Lead,... They show up as "Added (by API)"

Is this the normal behaviour? I don't think it should be.
Can it be prevented? How?

Thanks

Alan.

yes this is normal and expected behavior :)

u r synching drupal roles and civicrm groups. You cannot share one role among 3 groups

OK. Thanks. I will live with that. just have to create more Drupal roles. I was hoping to ease the management burden as they all have the same permissiosn.

Would this be one of the major differences between CiviGroup Role Sync and CiviMember Role Sync? The docs for CiviMember Role Sync state that you can share one Drupal role over multiple membership types!

if i'm not mistaken CiviMember sync is one way (i.e. membership gives you a drupal role) while CiviGroup Sync can be configured to be bi-directional.
