When I check "view only" in a profile - the field does not show up for the user
February 13, 2010, 09:59:21 pm
Hi All - ran a search and did not find any current issue like this.

When I create a profile - and I select the "view only" check box for one or many of the fields - they disappear from the from the profile when I generate it using the

http://www.myorganization.org/civicrm/profile/edit?reset=1&gid=N

Any tips?

I think "view only" fields are not displayed in profile edit mode.

Ok - is there any way I can have some of the text displayed but not editable?

You will have modify few places in CiviCRM codebase.

I'm willing to try if you could provide some pointers.

While I am in there I would really like to be able to have "sections" in a profile.

Basically  - if I could use a help box (like the one the profile uses before and after) to add text in front of a set fields in a table so to provide information to a user.

Something like this:

Profile name

Help box in front of Custom data 1 displays text "Section 1"

Custom data 1
Custom data 2

Help box in front of Custom data 3 displays text "Section 2"

Custom data 3
Custom data 4

Any pointers much appreicated

you might want to consider doing this via a hook and customized templates. check:

Lobo - the master - thanks for those very helpful links.

I think I will give it a shot. I have not done any coding since college but this could be fun and perhaps helpful to others as well.

Sounds like I create a module and that will be a good learning experience as well.

As I embark on my mission - another thought.

I would really like to be able to have an image behind the profile that I create.

Some background - my group designs living history events. We would like to have users request transfer to another unit. We want to use a graphic of the historically accurate form in the background and then the fields from CiviCRM with their name etc superimposed on top of the form image.

We are really open to how to do this - perhaps create a new image with all the info or create a PDF etc.

Are you guys aware of other approaches we could consider? Perhaps a PDF form fill or something?
