the person might have not filed an issue. please go ahead and file an issue. If this is important to you consider filing a patch.

For 3.2 we are out of time to consider making it a text box (its also a schema change). In general getting consistent data is probably a better idea than free form data, IMO

Our county support is fairly minimal. Would be great for someone to step up and write code to improve it and/or sponsor a developer to do so

hey heui:

if you'd like to help out with sorting and getting the county stuff fixed for 3.2 please ping us on IRC:

 http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#civicrm

We'll attempt to fix the critical issues of county not being saved for 3.2, but we dont have the resources/sponsorship to do a lot more beyond that for 3.2

since you are working with political campaigns, another related area you/your clients might be interested in developing/sponsoring is:

http://civicrm.org/blogs/lobo/support-canvassing-and-gotv-get-out-vote-functionality-civicrm

As an Free and Open Source Project, we do depend on the folks using it to help improve and sustain the project

Hi Donald-

Thanks for the update.

I may be interested in helping out with a longer term fix for the county stuff - it would be a good way for me to become more familiar with the CiviCRM codebase. I don't currently have the bandwidth to take it on at the moment, but maybe in a month or so.

I have a call with my client on Monday, I will gauge his level of interest in the GOTV/Canvassing features...
