Having trouble Limiting Access
July 27, 2010, 07:28:11 am
I have embarrassingly been trying to figure this out for a week now. So at this point I am happy just to pay someone for an hour of their time to simply peak into the database I am creating and then email me with the steps that I missed (perhaps even with a couple of screen shots) in limiting access in the way I am attempting to do.

I am "an American" now living in the Philippines and tackling a small database project for a street ministry called He Cares Foundation.

I've successfully installed CiviCRM 3.1.4 however I have hit a small hurtle where I am trying to limit the access of users in the database to a specific group using the Access Control List. I've successfully creating users that can see everything, and I've created users that can see nothing :-)

Again I'll be more than happy to pay a consulting fee for someone to guide me through this small task. I picture myself simply giving someone an account so they can take a look at what I've done and then simply providing me with the three or four steps that I am missing.

.. and yes I've read the manual ... even printed the whole thing out and had it bound so I can take it to bed with me :-)

Also this is the link of information that I've been reading over.

For anyone that ever finds this topic again. I got it resolved with a lot of reading, a lot of time and patience, and a little Lobo grease.

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,14847.0.html

Looks like the free help is more readily available than the paid help. ... I think once I become a 'professional' at this I'm going to start taking up some side jobs with it myself. ... I would have 'so' rather had paid someone to fix this for me at about $20/hr (so I could focus on other things). Which is incidentally the price that I'm thinking about charging when I get a bit better at this.

I think it's a fair price?; anybody got any thoughts on that? :-)

Wow; you are really everywhere ... Of all the people to respond to that comment, whew :-)

It's true; it is tough. I've done it before with onsite Linux server setup and basic Hardware OS stuff. Well actually my rate was $30/hr for nonprofits and $60/hr for profit agencies.

However this time I'm in the Philippines and the economy is more favorable so I'll try to drop it down to $20/hr.
But still, considering all the time that has to be put into this kind of work it's still not 'easy'.

If I do become fairly decent at this; just consider me a resource to take your light work and free up some of your time :-)
