Hi All... uber noobie here, so please be kind.
I did try searching around for an answer, but it wasn't quite that simple to look for.

I am exploring CRMs that can be used for a charity site that involves people donating online, and I think CiviCRM seems to be the best fit for what I need. I do not have it installed yet, and I can choose from either Joomla or Drupal.

The concept of my charity will be very similar to www.movember.com... where you can create teams and then those teams get people to sponsor that specific team. Then during the fundraising period, teams will have total donations associated with them... along with individuals having totals.

Is this something that can be accomplished with CiviCRM? If so, how easily can this be done?

Following this line of thought http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,7455.0.html might help you the most right now. And if you have some more specific questions then address them there. Perhaps eggtart was eventually able to implement something that really worked.

CiviCRM includes a feature called Personal Campaign Pages which allows your supporters to setup their own "donation portals" and tracks their progress toward a fundraising goal. This provides a chunk of what you want - but not necessarily the "team" part (although each Personal Campaign page could belong to a team leader who lists his team etc. ).
