I think I would try deleting the templates_c directory first & see if it will load up. You do want to move it but you might be able to get Civi to talk to you before you do

We are there!!!

Thanks very much to Hershel, Dave G and Eileen. Your patience with working this through has been really impressive and has rescued a small struggling trade union (labour union to you I think) and all our membership records.

We are committed to using Linux and open source software (even though we struggle with it sometimes) but the support from communities like civiCRM always shows the value of the open source over propriety applications.

No worries Dave - you should probably for tidyness move the folder into the defaults directory but given that it's working you might prefer just to leave it. I don't think there is any real impact

I will definitely do that. It will have to wait for the weekend (after all, I have an updated civiCRM to play with!!).
