IE7 crash when editing case status, case type or case start date
November 02, 2010, 04:58:11 am
Hi,
We're working on CiviCRM 3.2.3, a citrix network with Windows XP workstations and CiviCRM on a Debian server

It turns out that IE7 crashes completely, disappears of my screen, when editing case status, case type or case start date on any of the case types we have in CiviCRM here. It doesn't matter whether it is done with the little pencils or from the dropdown menu "New Activity". On Firefox 3.6 and Chrome 6 it works fine.

Doing the same thing on 3.1.5 is no problem whatsoever and works either way on any browser.

Any ideas (apart from ditching IE, but that's no option  :()?

Hi,

Can you try on sandbox.civicrm.org (3.3) if you have the same issue ? (Not sure if case if configured/enabled)

Otherwise, I'm afraid almost none of the developers are using ie (we are not that masochistic ;), and it sounds like a difficult problem to spot. Do you have the skills to investigate a bit more (eg disabling some js feature see which one crashes).

I use IE regularly, but IE8 not IE7.

Case isn't usually enabled on sandbox but usually is at http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org if you can check there.

Hi guys,

The same problem on http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/, I'm afraid.

Sandbox is an entirely different matter. None of the menu's work, dashlets don 't appear and the message is: "Javascript must be enabled in your browser in order to use the dashboard features." I can, however, remove dashlets. Anyway, since the main menu doesn't work I can't activate CiviCase and check out the initial problem.

If you start IE with no add-ons is it the same? Maybe there is a conflict?
Is IE8 upgrade a possibility?

With all add-ons disabled, there's no change, same problem. And upgrading to IE 8 is no option because the financial administration software here (based on Oracle) cannot handle IE8  :-[

We actually have an old server running XP + IE7 here. Got same results.

Seems to be javascript related but not obvious what. Unfortunately I can't really donate more time on it myself. Not sure what the demand out there is for supporting IE7?

If you are able to debug this yourself (e.g. via tools like this http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2004/10/26/247912.aspx or by inserting javascript debug statements into the civi code) that would be helpful. Can't think of any workarounds.

There's a similar-sounding jsTree bug discussed here:

We took some time and eventually decided to test and accept an upgrade to IE8. We did that and solved our problem.

Thanks all for your help and suggestions.
