Make it easier to manage the profiles: missing data ?
February 18, 2011, 08:25:13 am
Hi,

Just spend one hour with a user, they have about 3 dozen profiles, with about 10 variations of "personal data"/"your profile"/"contact information"... That contains mostly the same fields (first+last+email+address).

A) To be able to manage better these profiles and know if they are still useful, it'd be great to have some new fields:
1) contact_id (who created it)
2) have two fields (name vs. label), one being what is displayed to the user ("Your information") vs. the one used internally ("contact details for registrations of journalists").
3) have a note field ("created for the press event in the general assembly on oct 2010)
4) the creation date

B) Saving in the activity log when the profile is modified (not sure about this one, but we already had a profile used on a registration that changed in the middle of the registration period, to this day we don't know who, nor why).

C) being able to know where these profiles are used (eg which events, donations, memberships...)

What do you think ?

I think these changes would be really valuable, particularly the "name vs. label" field. We've run into many situations where two different profiles should present the same label to users, but they can't use the same name. It would also be nice to have a more descriptive name to use internally. It seems like most of the additional information in (A) should be relatively straightforward to implement.

B might not be so useful for my organization, because there are only one or two people who administer profiles. Another alternative might be to record instead a "last modified by" info, similar to contacts.

C would be great to know as well.
