Database portability
January 12, 2012, 02:00:44 am
I'm working with a client that is aiming at a live Worpress implementation of CiviCRM in the coming short while. As par tof our preparative work we ar eusing a CiviCRM install sitting alongside Drupal. My question is this: When version 4.1 is out of beta and stnadardised across all three CMS platforms, are the databases totally interchangeable, in that it would be possible to use the method set out at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Moving+an+Existing+Installation+to+a+New+Server+or+Location to move a CiviCRM db form a 4.1 Drupal install across to a 4.1 Wordpress install?

And if the answer to that question is no, can anyone advise on the best approach to achieve this migration.

Thanks
Graham

Hi,

It should mostly work, but one problem is going to be the table that link the CMS user and the contact in civi. (assuming you won't have the same id in wordpress & drupal).

This being said, I'd test on a dev site (and I'd do it sooner than later even if beta)

Thanks Xavier. At this stage I'm not concerned about CMS users, so I imagine that we can manually edit the table post migration and then do a user synch once hooked in to WP. I'll certainly run a trial and feed back anything I find - or come back with questions if/when I get stuck  ;)

It would appear that they are interchangeable and there was a report here this week of someone moving between Drupal and WP with no problems. I don't know if such a move is officially supported, but it seems to work fine. :)
