Okay, so... in my continued search for a solution to this problem, I have retraced the steps to the creation of my data set, because I believe that is where this problem lies.  Lobo, I am hoping that you can tell me if this sounds like an accurate depiction on this problem... here goes.

When loading int he contacts into the civicrm db, I used the civicrm import tool to do this.  it worked, though to match things up, I had to generate a few fields.  not a problem, it worked.  Then, I clicked the "synchronize Users to Contacts" tool, and that is where I think I went wrong.  the civi contacts don't exist in the Drupal database.  My lack of understanding of the synchronize tool led me to believe that this sis not matter.

I have tried a test scenario where I took a problematic contact from the civicrm and manually loaded them into the Drupal users table (using the Drupal interface.) I observed niw 2 records on the civicrm side for the contact... one (the original) is unable to be updatad with data, while the other (drupal created) seems to be working just fine.

does this all sound correct to you?

Kind regards,

Donald Lobo

I don't see how I have access rights to the civicrm back end for that site.  do you have a login that I can use or can you grant that access to the account athat I created there?

If the latter,  the username is jdowd

Thanks,

Donald Lobo

its a demo box. the demo user has rights to all of civicrm functionality

You can register and create a new user also as anonymous and test your theory

thanks... that is not the same url that was in the original post... that site has a very minimal front page.

no user ID nor passwd.

So, for the record, I didn't find this forum or any of the input from the posters here very helpful in solving this problem.

I think that the reason that I was getting this error is because I failed to designate the 'country' field in the civicrm contact import.  My only guess is that the mapping feature was quietly choking on the fact that there was no country with which to map the contact's location.

I re-imported my clients contact data in a test environment and added in the country field in the field map.  It seems to be working like a champ now.

Donald Lobo

did u manage to reproduce this on demo (which does have mapping enabled?)

the behavior you describe is buggy. If we can reproduce it on demo, we can definitely squash the bug :)

Most of my test files for import do not include address fields (though they include email fields). i've not seen the below in my testing

Thanks
