Seems like this might be a regression bug. We'll take a look and see if we can get this fixed for 4.1.4

I wanted to confirm that we have similar problem with fields Phone type (Phone, Fax, Mobile etc). when trying to update them through Profile. When there is a value added or changed, the fields save new value no problem but when there was a value and it's erased (so that empty value is saved), that doesn't work.

This installation is on Drupal 6.22 and CiviCRM 3.4.8.

Tested on demo 4.1.4 and the problem is NOT resolved there. Possibly this ticket (http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-10401) is related to the problem - it's marked as fixed but the scenario I described is not fixed

In our case we are not using "on behalf of organization" option, it's just a simple profile for individuals to update their contact information. The profile is not part of any contribution, it's just used directly through URL like civicrm/profile/edit?reset=1&gid=29
