Ok, I have CiviCRM running on another dedicated box with MySQL version 4.1.22-standard and it installed fine, but I believe I am running it with civiCRM 1.9.  I will upgrade MySQL to 5.x and see if it works.  Thanks for catching that.  I will report back.
