You might want to upgrade to latest CiviCRM 4.2.7 release and check if the problem still exists for you.

We're on 4.2.6 and have membership status types for which we don't want renewal reminders issued.
I have switched to the new system and have only just realised that unwanted reminders were going out.

Do membership reminders in 4.3 take membership status into account?
In a quick look at the documentation, it seems not.

A manual fix would be to change the membership End Date but we'd have to go through quite a few records and remember to do it in future.

I'm going to have to investigate reverting to the old reminder system.
We did have tweaked code so I can't remember whether the standard old system too status into account.
Anyone know?
