All,

I recently had similar issue with scheduled reminders not working. We are running CiviCRM 4.2.10. Here's what I found, in case it helps anyone. First, in the "Scheduled reminders sender" job log, I noticed that each day the reminders were supposed to send there was a "Finished execution of Scheduled reminders sender with result: Failure, Error message: DB Error: syntax error" message. I found that if I disabled all PAST reminders here, then hit the "execute now" option for Scheduled reminders, it seemed to run with success. I found it odd that we'd get error messages when there were past reminders set up, so I continued digging and started enabling past reminders one at a time to see if there was a pattern. There was: any scheduled reminder with an absolute date THAT WAS ALSO set to repeat caused the scheduled reminders sender to fail. Disabling just those, but leaving even past reminders with absolute dates and no repetition works just fine.

Hope that helps someone, and if it needs reported as bug or whatever I am happy to do so.

EDIT: It should also be noted that we are also using scheduled reminders for expiring membership reminder emails, as well as event reminders. The reminders that seemed to cause failure were all for past events, had absolute dates, but were also set up to repeat.
