New Features for CiviDiscount
March 13, 2013, 02:07:46 pm
We have been using the cividiscount module now for a couple of months and they have been great for limiting members discounts based on membership type or providing free memberships for invited speakers, etc!

We do have several items on our wish list for the next version -

* allow automatic member discounts to work with member price sets   (so far they work with regular membership pages)

* create a discount code on the fly as a "premium".  i.e. if someone donates at a certain level they receive a discount code that entitles them to one free membership.   Code can be used only once.  Another way we would like to use this is to provide a set  for benefits for organization membersips.  An organization purchases an organizational membership at X dollars that gives them a premium discount code for 5  individual memberhships in the society or 5 uses for event discounts.   The key is to limit the number of uses per organization and not have staff create all the separate discount codes.  The organization member provides the codes to their individual  members, which  lets the individual add the membership rather than the back office.

* allow the organization/individuals to see discount codes/usage on their dashboard.

* allow double discounts - if an individual has an automatic membership discount for an event, but there is another discount available  via a discount code allow both to apply.  Of course the discount can't lead to a negative price and there may need to be a "weight" to determine precedence or order to apply the discounts if one is monetary and the other is percentage.

*better UI:  searching through the list of line items with price sets (we have a lot) makes it difficult to find the correct entry as there is no horizontal scroll bar.   Add a hierarchical selection: i.e. pick an event or membership page, then show only the pricesets for that particular page.  Add a horizontal scroll bar or use a larger block to show the options.

Other ideas?

cheers,
Merlise

p.s. We're willing to donate to help add this!

I've suggested this before, but: auto add participant (member) to a group and/or auto assign to a role.

This accomplishes two major things:

1.  Event Management
Say you give all of your speakers one code, and all of your security another.  They each get assigned to a role based upon the code they used.  You now have an accurate accounting of how many of each role you have and where the money is coming from, without relying on the participant to select a role.

2. More event management.
All of your security members were automatically added to your "security" group via the dose they used (or a smart group based on the role).  You can email them the appropriate information, and have them on file for the next time.

There are many other potential applications, including targeted advertising.

Based on feedback and feature requests coming in, we will introduce an MIH for cividiscount for 4.4 (or maybe the version after that)
