This problem still affects 4.4, right?

If there are no objections, I did a pull-request to backport the patch by Carlo to 4.4:

Yes the problem still reflects the latest release of version 4.4.4

can someone help me with fixing an existing deployment. And also are these the only tables (currency, country, states) that are affected?

Basicly there is no solution at hand. The currency tables shows clearly that the data is corrupted but basicly this means that all data is corrupted and there is no solution to fix the corruption.
