Awesome! Thank you all, will watch the issue and can help you test this out.

I've been thinking about this recently as we're launching an online community soon (which means lots of drupal users).

What happens if there are two dupe drupal users linked to two dupe civi contacts?

Is there a neat way or merging two drupal users at the same time of merging two civi contacts? Or at least of warning you that there's two drupal users?

AFAIK it's not particularly neat. Drupal doesn't provide a way to merge users, however on the Civi dedupe screen it will be obvious that both contacts have a user, so that wil prompt you to do something about it.

Thanks,

that works on single merges, I might need to think a bit more about bulk merges or at least add in some logic around it.

@emilyf can you test https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-drupal/pull/91 please?
If you prefer patches to PRs the patch is https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-drupal/pull/91.diff

@eileen - I realized that the D6 version would have to be completely rewritten since both the field api and query api are different - how important is it to you? Do you actually have clients using that feature on D6?
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

No, we're relaxed about not back-porting it to either d6 or 4.2.

I have logged an issue against civicrm_entity to remind me about this as we are more likely to use that module to create contact reference fields than the built-in contact reference module https://drupal.org/node/2143321
