My experience, CiviCRM 4.1.3, is that the text box used to send the Thank You/Confirmation email may be able to accept HTML but it is limited

For example, this HTML does not render at all in either Thunderbird or Gmail

Code: [Select]
Please check our <a href="https://www.democratsabroad.org/group/france/september-weekend-retreat-toulouse">Information Page</a>for more details and a list of recommended hotels.

There is no link visible for the Information Page text.

If I just include the URL without wrapping it in the tag, as shown, it gets truncated.

i am in the same cas, but i put "define( 'CIVICRM_MAIL_SMARTY', 1 );" in the civicrm_settings.php and nothing happens. the system workflow messages are sended in plain text, not html.
what i am doing wrong?
i don't see the way to switch to htmbl bases messages...alwayas are sended in plain text.

Hey Westy,

I also think that the above message about how to get Smarty to work should be on the 1st page of the Templates Overview. My problem was that, as I could not get the templates to work, I never got to expanding the 'Overview'section for the more detailed information.

Could you create a documentation issue and explain in a little bit more detail how we can improve the documentation for this issue (including what doc pages you were looking at etc. and we can make sure this gets added to our documentation.

Thanks :)
