Integration with Quickbooks online?
June 04, 2007, 12:35:48 pm
I'm setting up a CiviCRM installation for a local organization. We will be using CiviContribute to collect online donations, and CiviEvent for event registration and payment. The org. has just hired a new accountant who is recommending they adopt Quickbooks Online, because the staff is small and it's convenient for some people to work with the books from home.

I'm wondering: are there are any integration points between CiviCRM's payment processing and Quickbooks online, or any other web-based small-business accounting software?. So far I haven't been able to find any information on this. Is there a section of CiviCRM docs which deals with accounting system integration?

Thanks!

Andy:

unfortunately there is no integration with accounting systems as yet. BUT we think this is an important feature and integration with QB online would be helpful to quite a few orgs

we'd be happy to help assist you with the integration and make this happen :) You might want to check some drupal contributed modules which potentially do some QB integration (so it might be using that as a base to tailor the civi feature)

Andy - There is no "dedicated" integration points from CiviContribute to Quickbooks. HOWEVER, you can easily export contribution data from CiviContribute in CSV (comma-separated) format AND Quickbooks (at least current versions) allows you to import CSV data. CiviContribute exports can include unique transaction ID's as well as organization-assigned Account Codes (by Contribution Type).

The workflow for this would need to be somewhat manual at this point in the CiviContribute side (search by date range, then export the contributions for that period). However, we think that a scripted (command-line) export capabliity - perhaps with some QB specific mappings and / or conversion to their IIF format - would be a great contribution and would allow for more automated workflows. Let us know if you want to work on this - we'd be happy to help out.

In any case, it would be awesome if other folks out there who might currently be using Quickbooks + CiviContribute would post their experiences, tips etc. here.

Thanks both for the responses. One of the perils of such a fast-moving project is that sometimes it's hard to tell from the wiki what has already been implemented and what is merely wished-for  :)

I won't have time in the near future to hack on an interface between CiviContribute and Quickbooks, but I would love to hear from folks who are using them together - or any experienced using CiviContribute with an accounting system, for that matter.

I'm wanting to check this feature out.  did you end up doing the export?  I can't see where that would happen from the CiviContribute UI, is the export somewhere else?  How are the fields mapped into Quickbooks?

Sorry, I never pursued it further. Good luck though!
